E.T. WYMAN PTA
From the PTA President: Rick Cascella

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We are now into 2010 and it has sure rolled in with an Arctic BANG! We left 2009 behind with fond memories of our successes and hope for more this year.

I am proud to say that, to the surprise of many, we were able to stage our Book Fair and the Playground Committee’s “Cookies with Keith Munslow” events in December and they went off without a hitch. The unofficial totals show a significant return for the Playground effort and a rousing, “Wow! What a great time!” from all who attended. I was very impressed with the many fun games and activities that the event included. There was a very spirited aura about the room that spoke to a positive community effort. All those in attendance and those that helped stage the event should be very proud of their commitment to the “Wyman Family.”

The Book Fair receipts exceeded the 2008 receipts by close to $500 and although we are waiting for the final tally from Scholastic, it looks like we may have raised close to $1,850 in “scholastic bucks” for Mrs. Richardson this year. Those “scholastic bucks” translate into more supplies, magazines and books for the library. I am sure Mrs. Richardson will make wonderful choices for us so that the students’ next visit to the library will present many new exciting stories and adventures to read and experience.

I also would like to point out some of the other successes we, the PTA, have had this past year. First off, a shout out to Mrs. King and Mrs. Jaggi for the wonderful job they are doing with the school store. They are consistent and energetic, an example to all of us. Also, the passive fundraising efforts headed by Mrs. Drew have been gradually gaining steam and we expect big things in 2010. Mr. Drew has been working with committee chairs on placement to the new ET Wyman website. You can always find PTA news and updates at our website.
This year, the things I would like to see advanced by our membership is the registering of Shaw’s and Stop and Shop cards for the benefit of the PTA general fund, increase in overall membership, and consistent growth in the attendance at our meetings and events throughout the spring. We will try to make it easier for parents to be involved and we will have opportunities for you to update your membership and sign on to help at many of the upcoming events.

Thanks for a strong start in 2009 and here’s to a fabulous finish to the school year with everything positive in 2010.
