E.T. WYMAN PTA
Letter from the Treasurer
For those who were unable to attend the last PTA meeting, I would like to summarize the financial position of the PTA and our budget for the coming school year.  For the last fiscal year end that ended August 31, 2009, we finished with about $12,000 in the bank.  The PTA generally has an annual budget of about $45,000 and we should have half of that in “reserves,” which means we should have about $22,000 in the bank.  This is $10,000 short of where we need to be.  Of the
$12,000, there is about $2,400 that is allocated for upcoming events such as Science Night, Walking Tour, Boys Choice, etc.  At the last meeting, several programs were cut or reduced due to the concern that PTA reserves were being depleted.  To further complicate our financial position, we were told that the City of Warwick was not issuing grants this year.  Last year, we received $1,000 from the City, and $2,000 the year before.  This money was used to fund our after-school programs.   In previous years, fundraising has supported all PTA-sponsored events and programs.  The Wyman PTA coordinates and sponsors activities such as after-school programs, cultural arts and
field trips.  Fundraising last year brought in over $10,000, but the PTA still had to make cuts.  So far this year we have raised about $1,400 from the Sally Foster fundraiser.  We still have a long way
to go.  There will be many more fundraising opportunities which will benefit the PTA General Fund.  The current fundraising event is the Entertainment Book, which is selling for $25 each.  Also, the PTA is putting together another calendar raffle.  PTA also has “Wyman Wolves” apparel available for sale.  Look for the display of apparel for sale at most events. There are several other methods of raising funds for PTA.  We participate in the box top reward program which brings in several hundred dollars each year.  You can also register your shopping “rewards” card such as Shaws and Stop & Shop, which will pay a percentage to the Wyman PTA.  Store cards like Target can be registered with Wyman receiving a percentage of your purchases.
Upcoming events such as Family Night, Boys Choice and Girls Dance also contribute to the general fund.  Historically, these events are self-funding, with the excess revenue going to the PTA’s general fund.   Wyman parents have always generously supported the PTA. Please remember, these programs are beneficial to the students and your support is greatly appreciated.   Any questions or concerns
you may have regarding fundraising or for a copy of the 2009-2010 budget, please contact me at 932-7868 or email me at sdlajoie@cox.net.
Thank you,
Scott Lajoie
